MILWAUKEE MILE’S GILBERT BROWN DELIVERS SCHOOL SUPPLIES, INCENTIVE
TO STAY IN SCHOOL TO M.P.S. STUDENTS
The Milwaukee Mile’s Gilbert Brown delivered school supplies to
Milwaukee Public School (MPS) students today that were collected in the
speedway’s “Go The Extra Mile” school supplies drive. Brown, a former
Green Bay Packer, also delivered a message and an incentive for middle
school kids to stay in school.
With The Milwaukee Mile IndyCar filled with school supplies out in front
of John Burroughs Middle School in Milwaukee’s north side, Milwaukee
Mile President & CEO Andy Randall and Brown, The Mile’s Director of New
Business Development, handed over supplies and unveiled an attendance
incentive for kids to attend middle school every day.
“On behalf of our loyal race fans, we are pleased to provide hundreds of
school supplies to MPS middle school students that we collected the week
of August 21st, leading into our Governor’s Cup race weekend,” stated
Randall.
Through the Gilbert Brown Foundation, the “Milwaukee Mile Gilbert Brown
Attendance Club” will award race tickets to Milwaukee Mile race events
in 2007 to students attending one of the 16 MPS middle schools with
perfect or near-perfect attendance during the 2006-2007 school year.
“Kids need to be reminded of the importance of staying in school,” Brown
said. “They can go the extra mile by getting good grades and staying out
of trouble, to become the next great race driver or baseball player,
teacher, whatever they choose. It all starts in the classroom. Through
the Gilbert Brown Foundation, we hope a lot of kids will earn the chance
to join us at The Mile next summer.”
The Milwaukee Mile also aligned with Office Depot, the “official office
products partner of NASCAR,” to also contribute back-to-school items as
part of their “Going the Extra Mile” program.
“We appreciate the donations provided by The Milwaukee Mile and the
community. Getting new school supplies makes our students feel important
and lets them know that others believe in their ability to succeed,”
said MPS Superintendent William G. Andrekopoulos.
The mission of the Gilbert Brown Foundation is to service youth in an
environment that promotes structure and life skills awareness by
introducing team building skills and also producing diversity in the
community.
The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest active motor speedway in the world,
dating back to 1903, conducting world-class auto races sanctioned by
IndyCar, NASCAR and Champ Car World Series, to name a few. For more
